IPL 2026 Match 42: Gujarat Titans (GT)vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Scorecard

Gujarat Titans defeated Royal Challengers by 4 wickets with 25 balls to spare in the 42nd match of IPL 2026. Following a comprehensive victory against Royal Challengers at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Titans position as one of the main contenders in this 12-month-old tournament are their Royal Challengers Standard goal.

The Toss and Strategy:

Gujarat Titans started the match by winning the toss and decided to opt to bat first. This decision was changed to be entirely based on the pitch conditions, which suggested that the pitch would appear more settled as the night progressed, making the chase more efficient for RCB, the defending champions, when they needed to bat first which involved a few early moves down the seams

RCB’s First Innings: A Story of Starts and Collapses:

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru innings didn’t really get into a rhythm all game long. While they did get off to a great start with several boundaries within their first few overs, the constant pressure put on them from a very controlled Arshad Khan (throughout the entire match) and a veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar led the RCB batsmen to never really find their feet.

Kohli’s Powerplay Aggression: With the way Virat Kohli smashed Kagiso Rabada for five boundaries in one over, you would think it was going to be RCB’s day. It was until Rabada got his wicket to not only eliminate one of cricket’s top-10 elite players but also take away RCB’s momentum.

The Middle Order Collapse: The RCB middle-order had no answers to Arshad Khan’s attack once Kohli was dismissed, as he single-handedly broke down RCB’s batting order by taking 3/22.

RCB’s Total: Even though RCB managed to finish on 155 after 19.2 overs, that was probably not going to be enough to chase down on a high-scoring ground such as this.

GT’s Chase: Shubman Gill Leads the Charge

They GT started their chase with determination. While RCB was trying to build up some momentum GT got its momentum right from the first ball of their innings.

Gill’s Knock: Captain Shubman Gill had a captain-like knock that consisted of a great 43 runs from just 18 deliveries. By Gill scoring runs early GT set the foundation for the run chase and they kept the required run rate under control from the start.

Middle Over Stability: The middle overs were anchored by Devdutt Padikkal who contributed a steady 40 runs off 24 deliveries. Padikkal was able to rotate the strike which limited RCB’s ability to create consecutive dot ball pressure.

Finishing Strong: Despite losing a couple of wickets near the end the GT were still ahead of the curve finishing 158 runs for 6 wickets in 15.5 overs.

Key Match Highlights:

“Bhuvneshwar Kumar has emerged as one of the most dangerous power-play life-loss bowlers,” said Brad Haddin (RCB coach) while talking to the media after the match “His 3-28 against RCB made it impossible for them to approach the innings in a better way.”

“Jason Holder put in a memorable performance with the ball, taking three very smart catches from RCB’s big batters before they could get going,” said Craig McDermott (RCB bowling director) at the Submit Suite press conference .

The most remarkable moment of the match was the exchange of words between Kagiso Rabada and Virat Kohli; after scoring 20 runs in the first over, Rabada received a precise response with a delivery that Kohli returned to the pavilion,” stated Ravi Shastri, the head coach of the Indian national team.

Post-Match Reflections:

A healthy debate on RCB’s dressing room assignments pointed to the need for more middle-overs areas as the Titans celebrated their achievements and moved up the IPL 2026 points table
